Finnigan & Oakley are a pair of duck toller siblings! Their humans brought them in for a session at Haus of Rufus and were one of the first families to get their photos taken during my launch!

Duck Tolling Retrievers, also known as Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers or simply Tollers, are wonderful dogs known for their intelligence, energy, and versatility. Some of their standout attributes include:

  1. Intelligence: Tollers are highly intelligent dogs. They are quick learners and excel in various training activities, including obedience, agility, and retrieving.
  2. Versatility: These dogs are incredibly versatile. Originally bred for hunting waterfowl, they can adapt to various roles, including family pets, therapy dogs, and even search and rescue work.
  3. Energetic: Tollers are known for their high energy levels. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. They enjoy activities like fetching, swimming, and hiking.
  4. Playful: Tollers have a playful and outgoing nature. They often retain their puppy-like enthusiasm well into adulthood, making them great companions for active families and individuals.
  5. Alertness: Tollers are naturally alert and vigilant. They make excellent watchdogs, as they are quick to alert their owners to any potential threats or unusual activity.
  6. Affectionate: While Tollers are independent thinkers, they are also affectionate and loyal companions. They form strong bonds with their families and enjoy spending time with them.
  7. Adaptability: Tollers are adaptable dogs that can thrive in various living situations, including apartments (with sufficient exercise) or rural settings. They enjoy being part of the family and are happiest when included in daily activities.
  8. Weather-resistant coat: Their double coat provides excellent protection against harsh weather conditions, including cold water. Regular grooming helps maintain their coat’s health and appearance.
  9. Good with children: When properly socialized, Tollers are generally good with children. They are patient and playful, making them great companions for active kids.
  10. Health and longevity: Overall, Tollers are a relatively healthy breed with a lifespan of around 12 to 14 years on average. Responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary care help maintain their health and vitality.

These attributes make Duck Tolling Retrievers excellent companions for active individuals and families who can provide them with the exercise, mental stimulation, and attention they need to thrive.
